The Hardest Bridge
Can the wounds of war heal? Can enemies become something more than enemies?
The Hardest Bridge follows two people bound together by an act of violence neither can undo. In 1984, Pat Magee — a fighter with the Irish Republican Army — planted a bomb in the Grand Hotel, Brighton. It killed five people, among them Sir Anthony Berry MP. His daughter, Jo Berry, was left to find a way to live with that loss.
She chose to do something extraordinary. She went to meet the man who had killed her father.
What began as a single meeting became a years-long journey — one that has taken Jo and Pat to places of conflict and tension across the world, where they share what they have learned about the possibility of reconciliation. Neither pretends it is simple. Both know what it has cost.
This is a film about what it takes to look at the person who has caused you the deepest harm — and choose understanding over hatred.
